Fabric RTI 101: Eventstream Destinations

Fabric RTI 101: Eventstream Destinations

Once your Eventstream is processing data, the next key step is deciding where those events should go — their destinations.

Eventstreams are designed to be flexible: you can route events to multiple destinations at once, both inside Fabric and to external systems. Let’s look at the main ones.

Eventstream Destinations

First is the Eventhouse, which provides a high-performance, KQL-based analytical store. It’s ideal when you need to query and visualize live data in real time — for example, detecting anomalies or monitoring live operations. Because it uses KQL, it integrates tightly with Real-Time Dashboards and KQL Querysets in Fabric.

Next, the Lakehouse destination gives you long-term storage. It lets you persist your event data in Delta format for later batch analytics, machine learning, or Power BI reporting. This is where you move from real-time insight to historical analysis and trend detection.

You can also push data to a Custom Endpoint. This is useful when you need to send events to an external API, message broker, or system outside Fabric — such as Azure Event Hubs, Service Bus, or even a custom webhook that triggers automation. It’s a great way to integrate Fabric’s real-time pipeline with other applications.

Another option is to create a Derived Stream. Think of this as a new Eventstream built from an existing one — maybe filtered, aggregated, or transformed for a specific purpose. Derived streams make it easy to share or reuse the same source data in multiple real-time pipelines.

Finally, there’s the Activator, which connects your real-time data to downstream actions. Activators can trigger logic apps, Power Automate flows, or other Fabric workflows the moment certain conditions are met. It’s where real-time processing turns into real-time response.

Together, these destination types let you handle both storage and action — archiving data for analysis, while also responding immediately when key events occur. This flexibility is what makes Fabric’s Real-Time Intelligence platform so powerful.
