Book Review: Small is the New Big

Book Review: Small is the New Big

I’ve been a fan of Seth Godin for such a long time. I recently read Small is the New Big: And Other (Little) Ideas That Change Everything . Once again, I’m glad I read it.

One thing I’ve learned over decades of giving presentations, is that you can present all the detail you want, but the thing that the attendees will remember, are the stories and anecdotes that you deliver. Seth is a master of story telling.

Seth’s books are not like other books. Instead of having a single topic, and a single train of thought throughout the book, they tend to be a group of stories, presented as a collection. This is another book just like that. It’s a combination that includes a bunch of (very) pointed short stories, content from columns he wrote for Fast Company magazine, and also content from some of his eBooks. There is an overall theme, but it’s not a single train of thought. Curiously, the chapters are in alphabetical order.

His stories (and his writing) are captivating. He’s written dozens of best sellers, including Purple Cow, which is widely regarded as the best marketing book for many years.

The only downside I found with this book, was that some of the stories are now quite outdated. They still provide a strong message, but more up-to-date versions of the stories would have more impact.

Summary

Some might find this one a bit rambling, but it’s full of interesting stories.
