Book Review: Your Best Year Ever

I recently listened to Your Best Year Ever by Michael Hyatt on Audible.
When the book started with The Best is Yet to Come being announced loudly, I nearly stopped listening. I can’t get the look of Kimberly Guilfoyle screaming that, out of my head.
The way she did that was like an excerpt from a horror movie. She has ruined that phrase for me, for all time.
But I got past that.
Content
This is another book that’s narrated by the author. I always appreciate when they do that. It adds a level of authenticity that’s missing otherwise.
I’m not sure how I felt about this book really. It offered a great amount of practical advice, but I did keep feeling that I’d heard it all before, and many times. In fact, the domains that he considered that you should focus on, were almost exactly the same ones that were covered in the previous book that I reviewed.
Michael is quite a good teacher for these topics but I notice that other people commenting on the book, didn’t make it to the end. I saw one review that said “Same old info. Nothing new from other popular books. Sounds like he read them, then wrote this.”.
I wouldn’t go that far, but I have to admit that I was hoping for something more.
Another note that might be just me, is that many of these books from the USA, tend to have quite a religious undertone. That falls very flat for me, as I’m sure it does for a world wide audience.
Positive Notes
What I did really like was the end of the book.
The discussion on how to get moving once you’ve set goals was good. Many good practical examples were provided.
I loved the stories from a military perspective that described leaders who had failed, and really didn’t need to have done so.
Summary
I did get to the end, and enjoyed parts of the book, but I can’t say I loved it.
